Analysis of sperm DNA fragmentation
One of the hidden causes of decreased male fertility is a malfunction of sperm chromatin integrity (DNA fragmentation; genetic component of sperm). Fragmented DNA in sperm lowers the chance of egg fertilization, causes problems during embryo cleavage, and increases the probability of miscarriages.
Sperm chromatin integrity is affected by:
- age (over the age of 40)
- infections of the urogenital system
- oncological treatment
- exposure to chemicals and lifestyle (stress, cigarettes, etc.)
